Transition to Practice Program

Kickstart your nursing career in UF Health Central Florida’s Transition to Practice program. Tailored for newly licensed nurses, this program offers the perfect blend of hands-on experience, classroom education, and expert mentorship to sharpen your skills, boost your confidence, and set you up for success from day one. Thrive in a supportive environment designed to help you excel in your practice!

How do I gain acceptance in the TTP program?

Acceptance is automatic upon hire. Your first step is to apply to one of our open positions on our career page. Most of our inpatient units at Leesburg and Spanish Plaines Hospitals accept newly licensed nurses.

How long is the Transition to Practice program?

The TTP program is 1 year in total, which includes 2 weeks of classroom training with expert speakers, simulations, and hands on practice, monthly meetings for continued education and support, precepted unit specific orientation lasting 8-16 weeks, and a dedicated educator to assist with successful orientation completion.

When should I apply?

We accept applications anytime since there are no program deadlines. For applicants in nursing school, you can apply 1-2 months before graduation. The nurse recruiters will tailor your start date based on when you plan to take the NCLEX. You can always join our team while in nursing school to gain confidence and competence while earning your degree. More information.

Are you hiring in specialty units?

Generally, our nurse leaders prefer newly licensed nurses to have at least 1 year of med-surg experience; however, if you have previous experience or completed your preceptorship/practicum in a specialty area, you may be able to start in one of our specialty units. Be sure to include any relevant experience on your resume and application.

I graduated a few years ago, but have never worked in a hospital. Do I qualify for the program?

Yes! If you have limited to no experience in an acute hospital setting, you can be included in the TTP program. Please email the TTP educator for more information or to discuss your individual situation.

I am still in nursing school. How can I get a head start toward TTP?

You can always join our team while in nursing school to gain confidence and competence while earning your degree. Learn more through our Now Hiring Students Flyer (PDF).
